Coronavirus Update – Suspension Of All Tennis at CTC [Updated]

Update 19/06/2020
Following the First Minister’s announcement this afternoon that sport courts can reopen from Monday 22nd June, we have outlined our Return To Tennis plan here. All future updates regarding the reopening of CTC will be made on this new post.

Update 29/05/2020
We at CTC watched the First Minister’s announcement this afternoon with hope for a safe return to tennis soon. It is disappointing and frustrating that a decision on outdoor sports clubs has been pushed back to 3 weeks time, but understand the precautions they are taking. As such, Caerphilly Tennis Club will remain closed until at least 19th June. During this period though, we will continue to work with Tennis Wales, the LTA and other relevant bodies to prepare to reopen CTC when it is deemed safe and appropriate to do so.

Update 24/05/2020
We have sent a Return To Tennis Survey to all of our current users. We would be very grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete this and please answer honestly as all responses will be considered by the CTC Committee and inform our plans and offering in the coming weeks as a return to tennis looks more likely. If you haven’t received the link, please get in touch with Head Coach Jonathan Morgan.

Update 11/05/2020
Despite the announcement from the UK Government yesterday where some restrictions will be relaxed in the coming days/weeks, as well as the subsequent release from the LTA today which included guidance on how tennis can resume from Wednesday 13th May, we must stress that this advice only applies to England. Caerphilly Tennis Club will continue to follow the advice of the Welsh Government, which is still Stay At Home, and as such we will remain closed for at least another 3 weeks. We of course continue to seek guidance from Welsh Government, Tennis Wales, Sport Wales and Public Health Wales on a possible return to playing tennis in Wales soon.

Update: 19/04/2020
Following the recent 3 week lockdown extension from the UK Government as well as further advice from the LTA, we have taken the decision to cancel scheduled Tennis For Kids and Tennis Xpress courses as well as all planned events up to 17th May 2020. This includes the early rounds of our Adult Championships, the Fed Cup Teen Girls Team Challenge, our Wimbledon Ticket Ballot and activities planned as part of the LTA’s Big Tennis Weekend. Tennis Wales also confirmed the Year 6 competition, set to take place at CTC, have been cancelled.

Update: 21/03/2020
We have taken the decision to cancel all 4 Mini Tennis Camps set to take place during the Easter Holidays. Parents have been emailed this morning with notice as well as details for those who have prepaid for their spaces.
Alongside this we have also cancelled all planned events until Sunday 19th April, which includes our New 2020/21 Season Launch, our Quorn Family Tennis Cup under 10 event, Adult Aussie Open Team Challenge and a Volunteer Day.
Tennis Wales have also confirmed the cancellation of the Caerphilly Schools Year 3/4 and Year 5 tennis competitions, scheduled for the last 2 weeks of April, which we host at CTC.

The Caerphilly Tennis Club committee along with our Head Coach Jonathan Morgan have decided to suspend all tennis activity at the Club for the foreseeable future in response to the Coronavirus Pandemic. This includes Junior and Adult coaching lessons, Adult Social sessions, FamilyFunFridays and Family Skills&Fitness as well as all upcoming events. A decision on our Easter Holiday activities will be made on Sunday 22nd March. This follows fresh advice from the LTA, Government and other official bodies.

This is a decision that we have not taken lightly as we know many players, young and old, have enjoyed staying active, getting fresh air and socialising in the past week as the pandemic has escalated. But we feel it is now in the best interests of not only our coaches, volunteers and players but also their families and the wider community.

We will of course continue to monitor the situation and seek further guidance from all official bodies and keep all of our players/parents/guardians updated via email, text and social media. Updates will also be posted here.

During this time, we encourage you all to still pick up a racket, watch highlights online, read tennis books and stay in touch with us and fellow players. We will be posting challenges, discussions and more on our social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) so please get involved and share them with family and friends.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding in these unprecedented times, and are grateful for your continued support.

It will be a tough few weeks/months for the Club as well as our self-employed coaches but we will be back as soon as possible.

Stay safe and see you all at CTC again soon.
