CTC are excited to again be a part of Tennis Wales’ Sytner MINI Schools Tour for 2017. Having run two projects, one for the Club in Caerphilly and another for our outreach work in Ystrad Mynach, with much success last spring we are delighted to be involved once more. And again, we have been awarded funding and resources to deliver two projects!
This will see us deliver free tennis taster sessions to Reception-Year 2 pupils in 5 Caerphilly schools and 5 schools in the Ystrad Mynach area, host a free festival for each location and invite all children from the taster sessions to attend, then have a fantastic introductory offer at the festivals to help players continue their tennis at either venue.

• The event at Caerphilly Tennis Club will take place on Saturday 11th March from 3pm to 4:30pm. Attendees will be able to sign up for membership ahead of the new season and receive 2 free coaching sessions! Click here to pre-book your place.
• While the event for Ystrad Tennis will take place two weeks later on Saturday 25th March between 11am and 1pm. Those who attend this festival will be able to pay in advance for 5 lessons in April for just £5! Click here to pre-book your place.

After seeing over 100 different players at our holiday camps during 2016, CTC are excited to say they will return during February half term, another first for us! Giving 6 to 12 year olds a perfect blend of tennis coaching, games and matchplay as well as other sports, our day camps will run 10am to 3pm on Wednesday 22nd and Friday 24th February. Players should dress appropriately for the weather and must bring food and drink for the day, although we do run a small tuck shop at lunchtime too.
Price per camp: members £6, non-members £8. Payment via cash or cheque (payable to Caerphilly Tennis Club). Spaces are limited and so advise you book in advance to guarantee your child a place. This can be done by printing, completing and handing in the booking form or by contacting CTC Head Coach Jonathan Morgan on 07891 640642 or at jonathanmorgan@caerphillytennis.co.uk. Bookings can also be made via CTC social media.

Note: All coaching groups and matchplay/social sessions at CTC will run as normal during the week, as will our Ystrad Tennis programme on both Saturdays of February half term.

CTC have again teamed up with the LTA and their partners Benenden in 2017 to offer four tennis festivals in 2017! Having run successful events last year, which led to the Club making the shortlist in the inaugural Benenden Tennis Venue of the Year awards, we hope to continue this success and grow them further this year.

Our first festival will celebrate the first grand slam of the year, the Australian Open, and take place on Saturday 28th January between 3pm and 4:30pm. It is open to all Junior players, with a small entry fee of members £2 and non-members £3.

We have received our goodie pack from the LTA which includes prizes (such as bags, sunglasses, medals and boomerangs) plus giveaways (like wristbands, grips and stickers) for players to take away with them, as well as a few extras to give the event an Aussie feel. This is intended to be a fun filled afternoon of tennis to introduce more players to recreational matchplay, something Head Coach Jon is looking to expand as we head to the new season. The LTA with Benenden UK are also running a social media photo competition for Clubs and players to enter and win a £100 tennis.net voucher! Ahead of the new 2017/18 season it is time for the Club to host it’s Annual General Meeting. This year’s A.G.M will take place on Thursday 16th February 2017 at 7pm in the clubhouse. All players and parents are welcome to attend.

We are looking to select a committee for the forthcoming season, which promises to be an exciting one at CTC especially with our Club Development Project. Many of our officers will be seeking re-election in their current roles but we are always looking for extra help whether in a few additional roles or general committee members. There are also chances to help on a less formal or less frequent basis throughout the year, especially as we undergo continued work to compliment the major works planned for the courts and clubhouse.

We are also looking to create a Junior committee at this years A.G.M , made up of players (age 5 to 18 years old) as well as parents of current Junior players along with selected coaches/tennis leaders. We are introducing this for many reasons, notably: to give a voice to Juniors for what they would like to see at the Club and involve them more in club life, to develop and promote our family offerings and to undertake fundraising efforts for their own projects. It is expected they will meet approximately 6 times throughout the year.

The evening will also include a final consultation with the membership on what colour they would like the courts to be repainted. This, along with input from Tennis Wales and Sport Wales, will make part of the Club’s overall decision. As always, updates will be posted on our social media sites as well as on our Club Development Project board in the clubhouse.

So if you have the skills and/or experience that could enhance our committee and Club, or are interested in learning about how you could help then please attend the evening. If you are unable to attend but want to get involved, please contact Head Coach Jon.

With our Christmas events complete (see here for pictures), our coaching programme has also concluded for 2016. It has been a busy and successful year on-court at CTC and we thank all players and parents for being a part of coaching, camps and events as well as to our partners such as Tennis Wales and Sport Caerphilly for their support. We would also like to take this chance to wish everyone at CTC a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Our coaching programme restarts the week beginning Monday 2nd January (this includes the Monday even though it is a bank holiday). The weekly schedule will be as shown here, with updates being posted accordingly.
Our Ystrad Tennis outreach programme will also return in the new year, with weekly sessions restarting on Saturday 7th January at Sue Noakes Leisure Centre. Again, updates will be posted here.

After a fantastic calendar of events in 2016 at CTC, it is time to bring the year to a close with our annual Christmas celebrations. And this year, we have added an event for Adult players as well as building on the success of previous Junior ones.

Tots Festive Fun, Wednesday 14th December during normal sessions.
Annual festive games session for children and parents to enjoy. Will include tennis and party games. All players who attend will receive a present from CTC. Members – £3, Non-members – £4.

Adults Christmas Social, Wednesday 14th December, 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
New for 2016 after our Mixed Social has been a huge success since it’s introduction earlier this year. A themed mixed social served with nibbles and drinks afterwards. Members – £3, Non-members – £4.

Teens Tinsel Tournament, Thursday 15th December, 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
Now annual fun yet competitive round robin tournament for Teen players. Includes pizza afterwards too! Members £4, Non-members – £6

Mini Tennis Christmas Party, Friday 16th December, 5pm to 7pm.
Our annual Christmas party for all players aged 5 to 12 years old. Fun and games on court, followed by burger and chips in the clubhouse.  All players who attend will receive a present from CTC. Members – £4, Non-members – £6

All players should confirm to CTC Head Coach Jon their intention to attend their respective events by Saturday 10th December at the latest. This is to ensure we know how many to cater for in terms of food, presents and planned activities. And of course, we would encourage all players to wear festive clothing/accessories! After another fantastic summer of tennis at Ystrad Mynach Park, it is time for our #YstradTennis sessions to move indoors to for the winter period.

Starting Saturday 15th October, sessions will run at Sue Noake Leisure Centre weekly until 10th December (except for 19/11/2016 where there will be no sessions). Similar to last year’s winter programme, coaching for 5-8 year olds takes place at 11am, while coaching for 8-12 years olds is at 12pm. Lessons will continue to be just £2 per player.

Our fully qualified coaches with valid DBS checks, will provide coaching through drills, games and point play that is suitable for all abilities. We have some rackets available for players to use for free during coaching sessions. We ask that participants dress appropriately for sporting activity and bring a drink with them.

The new term of coaching at CTC has got off to a fantastic start and the tennis will continue during October half term with coaching, two day camps and a Halloween party!

– Our weekly coaching programme will continue as normal, following the schedule as outlined on our coaching page. This includes our own Family Fun Friday initiative and our Ystrad Tennis programme.

– After a super summer of 13 day camps they will return for 2 dates, Wednesday 26th and Friday 28th October. Running from 10am to 3pm, our camps are a perfect blend of tennis coaching, games and matchplay as well as other sports/activities for 6 to 12 year olds. – In a first for CTC, we will be hosting a Mini Tennis Halloween Party on Saturday 29th October from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. With support from the LTA and their partners Benenden UK, we are offering a spooktacular evening of tennis action, Halloween games and food! Fancy dress is optional, but there will be a prize for best costume. We are asking players and their parents to donate a plate of themed cakes, again with the best entry winning a prize. These will be served alongside hot dogs and sweets for all attendees. Event fee: CTC members £4, non-members £6. If you would like to attend, please inform Head Coach Jon before Saturday 22nd October so we know how many to cater for.
