The twenty fifth edition of the club newsletter, which looks back at March and April 2017, has been uploaded here. Copies are also available to view in the clubhouse.
This edition looks back at our involvement in Tennis Wales’ Sytner MINI Schools Tennis Tour, our Easter holiday camps and the new season for Ystrad Tennis and at CTC.  There is also an update on our Club Development Project. And as always it includes a list of important upcoming dates and events, as well as news from the wider tennis world.

With the new season now in full swing, we are very excited to confirm the return of CTC’s original Family Fun Friday initiative! Starting Friday 5th May, you can get on-court with your family to enjoy up to 3 hours of tennis (4pm to 7pm) for just 50p per player*!

This is a fantastic way for new players to get started with tennis at the Club, or a great chance for current players to get an extra bit of playing time. We have plenty of equipment (rackets and balls) for all ages available to use at no extra charge, and our Head Coach is on hand to offer basic coaching tips and help if needed.

And if you enjoy playing with your family so much, we offer a Family Fun Friday Annual Pass as a membership package. This is £10 per individual or £15 per duo and enables you to play every Friday for free as well as enter the Wimbledon Ticket Ballot and ability to vote/volunteer on the committee. To access other member benefits, you will have to upgrade to full membership.

*50p charge is for each non-member who plays. CTC members can play for free as part of their membership.

To celebrate the first of the LTA’s Great British Tennis Weekends (GBTW) in 2017, we are hosting an open day at CTC on Saturday 13th May, from 3pm to 6pm.

There will be plenty of on-court activities for all ages and abilities such as our ball machine, target zone, beat the coach and fastest serve competition. Plus there will be courts available to play on for free if you want to play some points against family and friends.
As well as playing, you can find out more about what we offer whether it’s coaching lessons, matchplay and social sessions, Family Fun Fridays, special events or our popular school holiday camps! New players will also be able to get 20% off all membership packages if you sign up on the day. Refreshments will be available from our tuck shop alongside burgers and hot dogs from our BBQ.

You can pre-book your place here, which will save you time on the day meaning you can play even more tennis! The start of the new 2017/18 season will see our weekly coaching schedule expand! This is so we can accommodate a few immediate new sessions into our programme plus have space for further additions in the summer, to provide a smoother pathway for players as they grow and develop plus provide more opportunities for all Juniors to play and learn. The new weekly coaching schedule, in effect from Monday 3rd April, will be as follows:

Tots Tennis (3-5 years old) – Thursdays 4:30pm-5:15pm. Waiting list active.
Mini Red (5 years old) – Wednesdays 4:30pm-5:30pm.
Mini Red (5-8 years old) – Mondays 4:30pm-5:30pm.
Mini Orange (8-10 years old) – Mondays 5:30pm-6:30pm.
Mini Orange (8-10 years old) – Tuesdays 4:30pm-5:30pm.
Mini Green (10-12 years old) – Tuesdays 5:30pm-6:30pm.
Boys Only (8-13 years old) – Thursdays 5:30pm-6:30pm.
Girls Only (8-13 years old) – Thursdays 6:30pm-7:30pm.
Teens (12-15 years old) – Tuesdays 6:30pm-7:30pm.
Teens (15-18 years old) – Mondays 6:30pm-7:30pm.
Tennis Xpress (18+ years old) – Thursdays 7:30pm-9pm. Launching soon.

With these changes in mind, our Adult Nights will now be as follows:
Ladies Night – Mondays 7:30pm-9pm.
Mens Night – Tuesdays 7:30pm-9pm.
Mixed Social – Wednesdays 6:30pm-8pm.

Note, Family Fun Fridays will return after the Easter holidays with a full update being posted in due course.

CTC are excited to be part of the LTA’s Tennis For Kids programme for 2017! The initiative introduced over 13,000 new children to tennis last year and is bigger and better this time around and it’s coming to CTC!

This grass roots initiative is designed to help get 20,000 5-8 year olds playing tennis for the first time with a 1,000 LTA coaches delivering the programme nationally. We’re offering kids a free 6-week coaching course with every child that completes the course getting their own free tennis racket. CTC will also give players on our 2 courses access to a special membership offer for them and their immediate family as to continue their tennis with us once they have completed the TFK course.

The national campaign launches next Tuesday (4th April) but click here and enter your details to be the first to know when Tennis for Kids sign up opens, giving you the chance to secure a place for your child on one of our exciting courses at Caerphilly Tennis Club!

Head Coach Jon successfully applied to be part of the project and then attended a special training day with 80+ other Welsh coaches and deliver by the TFK team as well as former top 200 player Naomi Cavaday and GB Davis Cup captain Leon Smith!

– Our newly expanded weekly coaching programme will continue during both weeks, as will our Ystrad Tennis outreach programme which is now back at the park courts!

– After a  fantastic February half term where we ran 2 day camps, they will return for  4 dates this Easter holiday period on Monday 10^th April, Wednesday 12^th April, Wednesday 19^th April, Friday 21^st April. Running from 10am to 3pm, they are a perfect blend of tennis coaching, games and matchplay as well as other sports/activities for 6 to 12 year olds. Players should dress appropriately for the weather and must bring food and drink for the day, although we do run a small tuck shop at lunchtime too.
Price per camp: CTC members £7, non-members £9. Payment via cash or cheque (made payable to Caerphilly Tennis Club). Spaces are limited and so advise you book in advance to guarantee your child a place. This can be done by printing, completing and handing in the booking form or by contacting CTC Head Coach Jonathan Morgan on 07891 640642 or at jonathanmorgan@caerphillytennis.co.uk.

– We will be hosting our annual Easter event on Saturday 15th April from 3pm to 4:30pm. This will include a games session on-court before a special team hunt around the grounds. Event fee: CTC members £3, non-members £5. If you would like to attend, please inform Head Coach Jon before Wednesday 12th April so we know how many to cater for.

CTC are excited to announce that our Ystrad Tennis outreach programme will return to it’s original home at Ystrad Mynach Park for a third straight summer, starting Saturday 1st April and continuing throughout the whole summer!

With the move back outside, we will be offering 3 hours of Mini Tennis coaching every Saturday, and the programme is as follows:
Mini Red (5-8 years old) 10am – 11am
Mini Orange (8-10 years old) 11am – 12pm
Mini Green (10-12 years old) 12pm – 1pm

Sessions will continue to be just £2 per player. We provide all equipment but encourage players to dress appropriately and to bring a drink. There is no need to book in advance or commit long term, although we appreciate it if you could let us know so we can ensure we have enough coaches and equipment with us.

To launch the new 2017/18 season at CTC we are hosting a free afternoon of tennis on Saturday 1st April, 3pm to 4:30pm. This is open to current players and their families as well as any new people who may want to start playing tennis with us. This upcoming year promises to be a historic one in the Club’s history, so help us get it off to a great start and:
– Play tennis with families and friends.
– Sign up to CTC membership and also free British Tennis Membership!
– Learn more about our Club Development Project, new weekly coaching schedule, plans for Easter holidays and future upcoming events!

And, if you sign up to membership at this event you can get 10% off all membership fees AND receive 1 free group coaching session! (To be used by 28/04/2017 at CTC).

CTC have again teamed up with the LTA and their partners Benenden in 2017 to offer four tennis festivals in 2017! In January we hosted the first one of the year with an Aussie themed competition to celebrate the Australian Open, and now it’s time for our second!

This time, we are celebrating girls in tennis by hosting a Girl Set Match festival on Saturday 25th March between 3pm and 4:30pm. It is aimed at girls aged 8-13 years old and open to all abilities, with players encouraged to bring along friends! There will be a small entry fee of members £2 and non-members £3.

We have received our goodie pack from the LTA which includes prizes and giveaways plus decorations. This is intended to be a fun filled afternoon of tennis to introduce girls to tennis within a relaxed and social competition format. The LTA with Benenden UK are also running a social media photo competition for Clubs and players to enter and win a £100 tennis.net voucher!
