Ystrad Tennis Update – April 2016

Update 21/05/2016: sessions will continue at Sue Noake Leisure Centre for the next two weeks (28th May and 4th June) as we continue to work on arrangements to use the tennis courts in Ystrad Mynach Park.

Update 30/04/2016: as we continue to work on a return to the tennis courts in Ystrad Mynach, sessions will continue at Sue Noake Leisure Centre on Saturday 7th, 14th and 21st May. By which, we hope to have a clearer idea on our position and that of our Ystrad Tennis outreach programme for the summer.

Update 20/04/2016: unfortunately we have not been able to make arrangements with the bowls club to use the park tennis courts this Saturday (23rd April), meaning there are no Ystrad Tennis coaching sessions this weekend. We will return to Sue Noake Leisure Centre on Saturday 30th April as normal, where we can hopefully provide everyone with another update on the return to the tennis courts in Ystrad Mynach park.

Head Coach Jon spoke to parents in attendance at sessions yesterday regarding the situation of Caerphilly Tennis Club’s Ystrad Tennis outreach programme, and promised to provide an update today.

If you did not attend yesterday the current situation is that we cannot use the hall at Sue Noake Leisure Centre on Saturday 23rd April as it’s being used for a large karate event. We had hoped to have returned to the courts in Ystrad Mynach park at the beginning of April, but have come across some problems regarding the ownership, responsibility and access to them from the council and adjacent bowls club.
HC Jon managed to speak to some members of the bowls club yesterday about the situation of the tennis courts in Ystrad Mynach park. Although only an informal and brief chat, things were positive in terms of CTC using the courts again for coaching sessions, as well as for general visitors who may just want to play. We hope to meet with the chairman and other representatives of the bowls club in the coming days to come to an arrangement for both the short term (Saturday 23rd April) and the longer term (summer 2016 and even further ahead).

New Boys Only and Girls Only Sessions

Having run successful Girls Only tennis lessons in the past as part of various short term projects/campaigns, we are excited to reveal that CTC have received funding to establish a weekly session which we hope to run continuously throughout the year! Alongside this new launch, we have decided to also try a Boys Only session to mirror it, and again hope it can evolve into a staple of our weekly programme.

In recent week, we have been delivering tasters in local schools ahead of the session launches on Thursday 10th March!  Both hours are aimed at beginners, aged 8 to 12 years old and are a great introduction into structured coaching lessons and the Club as a whole. Sessions are £3, but you can get your first one free by contacting Head Coach Jon!

Get on court with the girls at CTC – Girls Only sessions, Thursdays 6pm to 7pm.
Think you’re the next Andy Murray? – Boys Only sessions, Thursdays 5pm to 6pm.

Cardio Tennis Returns To CTC!

We are very excited to reveal that Cardio Tennis will be returning to CTC after receiving  funding to establish a Ladies Only session as part of the Club’s Ladies Night, with the new sessions taking place on Mondays from 8pm to 9pm starting Monday 14th March 2016!

After successfully being award funding from the Community Chest grant scheme, we have purchased new equipment for the new weekly “fun, sociable tennis based fitness class“. You will get a great cardio workout while hitting lots of tennis balls with the main focus on getting fit as opposed to tennis ability, although this will naturally improve over time too!
Having had Cardio Tennis sessions run at the Club under previous coaches, Head Coach Jon qualified as an instructor back in October and can’t wait to re-introduce sessions, much to the delight of current Ladies players already!
Once this group has been established in the coming weeks, Head Coach Jon hopes to expand the Club’s Cardio Tennis offering for all sections of the Club such as Men’s team players and even Juniors for the summer.

If you have any questions regarding Cardio Tennis sessions at Caerphilly Tennis Club, please contact Head Coach Jonathan Morgan on jonathanmorgan@caerphillytennis.co.uk or 07891 640642. And make sure you interact with our social media platforms to stay up to date with the latest Club news and events.
