Wimbledon Ticket Ballot and Awards Night

Tuesday 15th May saw the Club host its Wimbledon Ticket Ballot and Annual Awards Night. Lots of members turned up to see the Junior Awards being presented by Jonathan Morgan, followed by the Ticket Ballot where ten sets of tickets were up for grabs, with the evening concluding with Adult Awards and some social tennis under blue skies. Mixed Results This Weekend

On a sunny South Wales day, The Men’s Courtstalls Second team travelled to Dinas Powys for their first fixture of the year and got off to a great start winning 4-2. A great start to the season and a good sign of things to come as they bid for another consecutive promotion this season.

In contrast, the Men’s Aegon Team Tennis team travelled north to play Crickhowell in the wide open and windy countryside. It was never going to be their day when they lost three of the four singles matches, with Tom Edmunds overcoming Darren Hill for Caerphilly’s only win of the tie.

Sunshine at Last

Finally a fixture day has some sunshine. Today see’s the Men’s Aegon Team Tennis team travel to the dizzy hights of Crickhowell. Following two defeats to begin the season, the team will look to get a win under their belt. Today’s team is Karl Williams (captain), Ryan Chard, Tom Edmunds and Morgan Jones.

The weather also shines on the Men’s Courtstalls Second Team for their trip to Dinas Powys in the first fixture of the season. Today’s team is Steve Muller, Mike Dury, Neale Watkins, Geoff Hayward-Dobson, Filippo Marozzelli and Jon Hillard.

Wimbledon Ticket Draw

This years Wimbledon Ticket Draw will be held at the clubhouse on Tuesday 15th May at 7pm.

This year there are ten pairs of tickets to be won. Find out more here: Wimbledon Ticket Draw 2012.

There will also be an awards evening at the event to hand out team, junior and senior awards from the past season.

Rain Stops Play

Wind and rain and outdoor courts don’t mix. This week has seen the Gwent Midweek Men’s First and Second Team’s fall foul of the weather in Caerphilly with both matches having to be postponed with the courts being unplayable. The matches will be rearranged with the relevant clubs and the fixture lists will be updated.

Push for Promotion

After last years succesful promotion and a good cup run for Caerphilly’s Gwent League Men’s Seconds, this year they will push for a consecutive promotion to put them in the top flight next season for a potential clash with the First Team. The Seconds will play Usk, Cwmbran, Abergavenny and Penallt, starting this Wednesday nigth at Home against Usk at 6.30pm. Title Defence Begins at Home

Caerphilly Men’s First Team stormed the Gwent Mid-Week League last year and won the title having just lost one rubber all season. This year they will look to defend their title against Monmouth, Crickhowell, Stow Park and Allt Yr Yn 1st and 2nd team. The first match is this thursday evening, at home to Monmouth. Courtstalls Summer Doubles League Kicks Off

The Courtstalls Summer Double’s league got underway this weekend for Caerphilly’s Men’s First Team with a home match against Rhiwbina. On a day that showed signs of mid summer and mid winter within the space of half an hour of each other, the teams braved the courts and battle commenced. The first taste of Prem 2 tennis for Ryan Chard, Steven Jones, Morgan Jones and Tom Edmunds was backed by the experience of captain Karl Williams and Simon Howarth. Caerphilly 2nds Vs Firbank 1sts (Away)

On a cold and blustery night, Caerphilly 2nds headed for the dizzy heights of St Julian’s to take on the mighty Firbank A. Fortunately the rain held off and an evening of tennis commenced. The top pair, Steve Muller and Tom Edmunds started very well taking the opening set 7-5. Read the Full Match Report.

Aegon Team Tennis Underway

The Aegon Team Tennis League kicks off today with a home match against Rhiwbina on a somewhat windy afternoon in Caerphilly.

This weeks team is; Steven Jones (8.2), Tom Edmunds (9.1), Morgan Jones (9.1) and Ryan Chard (9.2). Ryan will captain the team in Karl Williams’ absence.
